{"id":27,"date":"2015-09-23T13:16:07","date_gmt":"2015-09-23T18:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bcsparade.com\/?page_id=27"},"modified":"2016-09-30T19:02:24","modified_gmt":"2016-10-01T00:02:24","slug":"faqs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bcsparade.com\/?page_id=27","title":{"rendered":"FAQs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong><em>Do we have to build a float to enter?<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Not really.\u00a0 There are marching units, bands and motorized units.\u00a0 To make the Parade as attractive as possible, marching units have to be dressed in a common uniform and motorized units have to be well decorated.\u00a0 If you just put your delivery van in the line-up, there\u2019s a \u201ccommercial entry\u201d fee that is much higher.\u00a0 We would like you to make your entry more than a rolling commercial.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><em>What about passing out candy to the kids along the route?<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>That\u2019s fine.\u00a0 Most kids get more candy at the Parade than during Halloween.\u00a0 But, you can\u2019t throw anything into the crowd.\u00a0 That\u2019s one of the big rules (your Mom always said that it\u2019s fun till somebody loses an eye).\u00a0 And you have to work really hard to keep sugar seeking children from running into the street.\u00a0 Often they\u2019ll follow you back to your float when you need to restock your candy supply.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><em>How is the Parade line-up determined?<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Aggie Band the the Ross Volunteers are always first.\u00a0 Then the Parade committee shuffles color-coded cards with each entry written on it.\u00a0 The floats are evenly spaced out, as are the marching units.\u00a0 Entries with young children are put early in the parade, though there are usually so many somebody is always at the back.\u00a0 The Bryan and College Station city and schools are alternated each year as to who goes first.\u00a0 Things that poop on the street toward the back.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Santa always brings up the rear!<\/p>\n<h2><strong><em>What If It Rains?<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Perish the thought!\u00a0 In all 88 years the Parade has been cancelled only once.\u00a0 We roll down Texas Avenue in heat, mist, light winds, light rain, and clouds.\u00a0 We let each entry determine if the weather is appropriate for their float and their participants.\u00a0 Obviously the weather requirements aren\u2019t the same for a float with children compared to an antique auto entry. &#8220;Go&#8221; or &#8220;No Go&#8221; is determined right at 2:00PM.\u00a0 Any announcement about the schedule can be heard on KNDE-FM 95.1.\u00a0 No announcement means no change.\u00a0<em>If the Parade is cancelled, it is not rescheduled.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong><em>Why is the Mandatory Line-up meeting such a big deal?<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s the only way the Parade committee can make sure that everyone knows what\u2019s going on.\u00a0 And it\u2019s where you bring your forgotten entry fees, insurance cards, and get your line-up information.\u00a0 We also give a safety talk and answer a zillion &#8220;what-if&#8221; questions.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><em>Who Runs the Parade?<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A volunteer committee of about 8 people get together to budget and schedule the Parade.\u00a0 The Parade is a not-for-profit event.\u00a0 The police and city governments all support the idea of the Christmas Parade and provide help and assistance when called upon.\u00a0 Mainly\u2026 it\u2019s run by all the entrants who think Christmas is more than just a holiday\u2026<em>\u00a0it\u2019s a season!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do we have to build a float to enter?
